Donna Lapwood is a registered psychologist who has a passion for working with children, adolescents and families. She began her career as a Guidance Counsellor with the Townsville Catholic Education Office and spent the majority of her career working in schools, supporting children, teachers and families. Donna also worked in New Zealand for the Ministry of Education within the Severe Behaviour Service, before returning to Townsville.
Donna has extensive experience in the use of psychometric assessments, particularly for the identification of learning disorders, intellectual disabilities, and autism spectrum disorders; just to name a few. She has a very keen interest in the area of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and has a rare awareness of females living with autism. Donna’s passion with ASD has given her an excellence in identifying and supporting diagnosis for ASD and most importantly providing the right support and assistance families need. Due to her passion, Donna is currently involved in the establishment of the Townsville Centre of Excellence for Autism Research, which is very exciting for the Townsville community.
Donna utilises evidence based therapeutic interventions to address anxiety, depression, self-esteem and behavioural difficulties, and is passionate about working with parents to obtain the best outcome for their child. Donna provides a safe and welcoming environment, where talking about the ‘tough stuff’ is made just that little bit easier, and where kids can have a lot of fun doing so.
